Chain Hoist – Weighing Up your Requirements Easily

Defining Chain Hoist in simple terms means a heavy mechanical device that is used for lifting and shifting heavy objects such as machines, raw equipments and many such other things. This device is surrounded by small and big pulleys which hold the object in between properly through its solid grip. Block and tackle are two important systems which is in practice till today as it is used greatly to balance the objects.

These days, machine industries and other domains have found out other ways to lift and shift heavy objects from one place to another. Gone are those days when people had to think twice of ways as how they can use small pulley for pulling up heavy objects and machine spare parts.  Previously, pulley inventions lead to ease of machine transport inside the industries and factories. Later on gradually, this further led to the improvement of the chain hoist in air, manual and electric ways. Be it wooden furniture, rods, boilers, machinery, mechanical equipments, reactors in nuclear labs etc., these rock-iron hoists can protect them from explosion and provides heat suspension.

There are three varied categories in it:
  • Hand chain
  • Lever Ratchet
  • Differential
Major Issues to be take care of:

It is heavy in nature so you have to keep the weight lifter tight and screwed up tightly so that any mishaps or considerable expenses do not take place.

Chain Hoist is usually made of strong pulls which are complex in nature so that it can carry heavy weight. Being made by steel material and hosted by aluminum so that it can be resisted through electricity and also can avoid corrosion.

Electric Chain Hoist is usually used for elevating heavy-weighted industrial equipments so that it can conveniently push them to the destined place, be it be office or factory or open space.

The Potent force of Chain Hoists

A Chain Hoist is a wonderful machine by the means of which, displacement of heavy loads can be done safely, efficiently and with the minimal of efforts.  A closed chain in loops, along with the support of a pulley, makes it a strong machine to pull, levitate and displace loads of any order, mass and shape.

There are different types of Chain hoists designed according to the purpose for which they are built, and can be broadly categorized as

Manual Chain Hoists: The likes of the ones found as part of a truck’s towing system.  They are very light weight and easily portable.

Electric Chain Hoists: Heavier than manual chain hoists, and require electricity to do the job of displacing heavy loads with control.

Liabilities like labor workers and employees can be curbed using chain hoists.  The risks involved in such heavy duty work are also minimized. Moreover the attached loads are held securely; hence it can be fixed and moved without much supervision.  Chain hoists are an investment for a long duration of time.  Conduct a deep study of your requirements and then opt for a chain hoist, which is suitable to your needs.

At Ace, we design Chain Hoist which is a modular to assist in low maintenance.  Ace is renowned in delivering Chain Hoists which are compact, lightweight, sturdy, easy to operate, durable, and reliable.  We manufacture the Chain Hoists from the best materials; take utmost care in precision and accuracy while making the use of every single part of the assembly, we also provide chain hoists ranging in size and capacities, with fresh modular designs.

Different Types of Chain Hoist and its Working

There are many different varieties and assortments in which the Chain hoists are available in the market. Each one them has its own use and specialty for which it is known. The following are the different kinds that are available include differential, screw-geared, and spur-geared. The elaborate details for Differential hoist are presented here.

Differential hoists are the simplest type of chain hoist. It is made up of two sheaves on the upper block and one on the lower block. The throat and grooves of the upper sheaves are made with pockets that fit the links of the chain. One of the sheaves has one or two pockets less than the other. This difference in the number of pockets is called the differential. Each time the sheaves rotate one full turn, one side of the chain becomes one link shorter. This differential, as the sheaves are turned, provides the mechanical advantage necessary for lifting the weight.

The upper sheave, having the fewer pockets, is slightly smaller than the other sheave. The small sheave is the load side of the hoist. The differential hoist is the least efficient of all hoists, but probably the most common.
The actual operation mechanism is based on the pull of the chain that moves the wheel back and forth. As the chain is pulled around the inner load loop gets smaller or larger by the difference in the number of pockets on the wheel. As the lifting loop gets shorter the hand loop gets longer and vice versa. This is a bit of an inconvenience but the mechanism is as simple as they get. This is all about Differential ChainHoist.

Qualifications required for Chain Hoist for Operation

Whenever any machine is to be used efficiently, it is very important to possess proper know how for it. This is equally applicable in the operation of Chain Hoist too. If any unqualified person is allocated to operate it then there are chances of mishap and loss to life and property too.

There should be a rule which only allows the designated and appropriately qualified personnel are allowed to operate them. The properly qualified personnel can operate the equipment safely which shall thereby can extend the equipment’s service life and reduce costs by avoiding potentially hazardous operations. The physical and mental condition is equally important along with sound technical knowledge.

The following are some of the points that are to be kept in mind while choosing the workers for this domain:
·         They must have normal hearing, vision, and depth perception.
·         It is not advisable to operate a crane or hoist if they have a known physical condition that would prevent them from acting quickly in case of an emergency.
·         Operators who are taking prescribed medication should make sure that the medication will not impair the ability to operate cranes and hoists safely.
·         Use of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited in the workplace. If you suspect an operator’s ability to be impaired for this or any other reason, notify a supervisor immediately

For the knowledge sharing purpose training programs should be organized along with some practical sessions. The employees shall greatly benefit from crane and hoist training. The employees should be cautious and not use homemade, modified, unrated, or in-certified equipment. There should be an inspection done on timely basis to know about the status of the operators’ knowledge about Chain Hoist.

Ways to maintain Chain Hoists

Any device that you use needs to be looked upon regularly otherwise it shall not give the optimum level of performance as it is expected to give. The same goes for the ChainHoist and so different points to be kept in mind for the maintenance of it are discussed here.

The following are the points to be kept in mind while using it and mainly during its maintenance:

1. Whenever any new installation or overhauling is done, there should be first trial run and only after that it should be used actually.

2. In normal use, should be carried out prior to 125% of rated load, lifting off the ground about 100 mm, 10-minute static load test and check whether it is normal.

3. Dynamic test is based on rated load weight, lift and move around for repeated testing, test check the mechanical transmission parts, electrical parts and connecting parts are normal and reliable.

4. In use, the absolute prohibition of the environment is not allowed and more than rated load and nominal closing hour number (120) of cases.

5. In the use of specialized personnel must inspect hoist regularly, found that failure to take timely measures, and carefully recorded.

6. Chain retirement criteria should be decided and strictly followed.

7. Chain oil should be used when a hard brush or small piece of wood is prohibited by hand to direct the work of the rope is oil.

8. The use of worn out parts should be given special attention and change should be made immediately.
There should be also a committee that is responsible for checking this, else it shall create mishaps.

Introduction to Chain Hoist : Everything You should Know about Chain Hoist

According to the dictionary, the device for lifting and raising heavy or cumbersome objects is called as the hoist. It is the member of the crane family. There are many different kinds of available in this category too. The most commonly used is the Chain Hoist. Theycan be of either the chain type or the wire rope type.
Common small portable hoists are of two main types, the chain and the wire rope or cable type. They may have a lever to actuate the hoist or have a loop of operating chain that one pulls through the block which then activates the block to take up the main lifting chain.
A hand powered chain hoist with a ratchet wheel is known as a "ratchet lever hoist" or, colloquially,”Come-A-Long". Going back in the history, the original hoist of this type was developed by Abraham Maasdam of Deep Creek, Colorado about 1919, and later commercialized by his son, Felber Maasdam, about 1946. It has been copied by many manufacturers in recent decades. A similar heavy duty unit with a combination chain and cable became available in 1935 that was used by railroads, but lacked the success of the cable only type unit.
The following are the features it offers:
·          Offered as hook suspension or with a range of push,
·          Mains contactors fitted as standard for increased safety
·          Complete electrical protection by low voltage control circuit
·          Seated protection from dust and water to IP55
·          Quiet and smooth hoist operation ensured.
·          Top hook fitted as standard
·          The heavy-duty 960-rpm. Brake motor features with adjustable  spring pressure
·          All units factory tested to 125% safe working load
·          Three phase 230-415V,50Hz units available
